the practice

The 8 Museum is a practice-led art and research project by Berry Sullivan. Since January 2024, the project has documented instances of the Hindu-Arabic numeral 8 encountered in the built and natural environment — on walls, signs, pavements, machines, stones, and surfaces across the world.

The collection is growing toward a target of 8,888 encounters. Each 8 is photographed in situ, untouched, under existing conditions. Nothing is staged. Nothing is taken. The practice is one of sustained, embodied attention — a way of moving through the world that treats every surface as worthy of care.
