cities in which encounters have occurred
An annex of The 8 Museum is a city in which eight or more encounters have occurred. It holds no building, employs no staff, and has acquired nothing; its collection remains permanently installed where it was found, on public display, maintained by the city itself. Twenty-six annexes have completed the museum's paperwork.
The museum's remaining cities — among them Pattaya, Lucca, Bergamo, Florence, Siena, Kawasaki, Nara, Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Alcúdia, Grafton, Burgas, Piran, Kirkenes, and the Sarandë–Ksamil coast, whose claims are beyond dispute — are annexes in fact but not yet in paperwork. The nomenclature committee proceeds at its own pace, and thanks the annexes for their patience. Sites of fewer than eight encounters are administered as field stations. The museum also maintains a standing research programme in the eighth degree — the places lying at 8°N, 8°S, 8°E, and 8°W — where its holdings currently comprise Comporta, Zürich, and, regrettably, an airport.
