An annex of The 8 Museum is a city in which encounters have occurred. Unlike the annexes of other institutions, it holds no building, employs no staff, and has acquired nothing. Its collection remains permanently installed where it was found — on enamel number-plates, carved limestone, gilded shopfront glass, lift buttons, cobblestones, and at least one neon tube — and is maintained, without their knowledge, by the residents, the weather, and the municipal services of the city itself.

The Paris Annex was established in August 2026, in the course of six days' fieldwork, and is the museum's first annex in France — a country that had stood in the register since May 2025 on the strength of a single encounter in the forest country south of the city, where it waited, patiently and alone, for its capital to be brought in. The city contributes in the registers it has always kept: enamel number-plates in carved pediments, gilded script on shopfront glass, an 8 of round cobbles set in asphalt, and one work that has waited some decades on the keyboard of a typewriter. The annex's register also records the museum's first formal deaccession: a crêpe, folded into a passable 8 by the practitioner's own hand, was struck from the record under the axioms — a made 8, however accomplished, is not a found one. The committee thanks the practitioner for volunteering the confession, and has asked that breakfast remain distinct from fieldwork in future. Each of the annex's works was photographed in situ, untouched, under existing conditions, and left exactly as it was. Visitors to Paris are advised that the entire collection remains on public display, and that the works are best encountered while looking up, or down, but only rarely straight ahead.

France's first encounter — a lone 8 accessioned on the 21st of May 2025 above the forest country near Fontainebleau, from a passing aircraft, in circumstances the committee has reviewed and censured elsewhere — remains administered as the Fontainebleau Field Station, the annex's elder by fifteen months. A field station is a site of fewer than eight encounters; it may, in time, be elevated to an annex, though the forest, which has still not been visited at ground level, has shown no urgency.
