An annex of The 8 Museum is a city in which encounters have occurred. Unlike the annexes of other institutions, it holds no building, employs no staff, and has acquired nothing. Its collection remains permanently installed where it was found — on granite kerbs, billiard balls, LED screens, and studded brass — and is maintained, without their knowledge, by the residents, the weather, and the municipal services of the city itself.

The Brisbane Annex was established on 13 September 2024, in the course of four days' noticing, and holds the title of easternmost annex — the first ‑most to be awarded using the committee's new globe, and it is hoped the last to require it. The museum notes for the record that the collection's easternmost single work lies further up the coast near Ballina (153°15′E), in country whose paperwork is pending; the annex holds the institutional title while its neighbour holds the fact, an arrangement both have accepted. Each of the annex's works was photographed in situ, untouched, under existing conditions, and left exactly as it was. Visitors to Brisbane are advised that the entire collection remains on public display.
