an annex of the 8 museum
22°18′N — the museum's densest annex
An annex of The 8 Museum is a city in which encounters have occurred. Unlike the annexes of other institutions, it holds no building, employs no staff, and has acquired nothing. Its collection remains permanently installed where it was found — on minibus plates, layered posters, shutters, neon, and shopfront gold — and is maintained, without their knowledge, by the residents, the weather, and the municipal services of the city itself.
The Hong Kong Annex was established on 17 February 2025 and is the museum's densest: 385 works in a territory that could hide inside several of the museum's other premises. Here the 8 is not merely found but courted — the annex sits in the one jurisdiction where the digit's auspiciousness is a matter of market price, and the museum notes, with professional respect, that it was collecting 8s here long before the museum arrived. It is also the museum's swiftest annex, its works gathered at a hundred and twenty-eight a day, and its earliest-rising: no other annex has so much of its collection in hand by nine in the morning. Each of the annex's works was photographed in situ, untouched, under existing conditions, and left exactly as it was. Visitors to Hong Kong are advised that the entire collection remains on public display.
