An annex of The 8 Museum is a city in which encounters have occurred. Unlike the annexes of other institutions, it holds no building, employs no staff, and has acquired nothing. Its collection remains permanently installed where it was found — on dive-shop boards, perforated steel, a green wall, scooter plates, and paint on concrete — and is maintained, without their knowledge, by the residents, the weather, and the municipal services of the city itself.

The Koh Tao Annex was established in September 2025, forty-seven of its seventy-one works accessioned on a single day when the boats were not running. The island is the museum's smallest annex premises by area outside the Maldives, and the committee observes that it produced more eights per square kilometre than any city on the register, most of them attached to the business of getting people underwater. The annex's neighbour across the strait, Koh Samui, completed its paperwork the same day. Each of the annex's works was photographed in situ, untouched, under existing conditions, and left exactly as it was. Visitors to Koh Tao are advised that the collection remains on public display. Every work was last verified on the day of its encounter; what the weather, the council, and the ordinary attrition of the world have since deaccessioned, the museum does not undertake to know.
