An annex of The 8 Museum is a city in which encounters have occurred. Unlike the annexes of other institutions, it holds no building, employs no staff, and has acquired nothing. Its collection remains permanently installed where it was found — on green enamel, white paint, a manhole cover, a gold-leaf shopfront, and the red of a temple gate — and is maintained, without their knowledge, by the residents, the weather, and the municipal services of the city itself.

The Kanazawa Annex was established on 9 November 2025, the last full day of the museum's autumn in Japan, thirty-nine works accessioned between a morning train and an evening one. The city produces nearly all of the country's gold leaf and the committee records, with satisfaction, that at least one of the annex's eights is made of it. The annex closed the museum's Japanese paperwork for the year, after Kawasaki, Kumano, Nara, and Osaka. Each of the annex's works was photographed in situ, untouched, under existing conditions, and left exactly as it was. Visitors to Kanazawa are advised that the collection remains on public display. Every work was last verified on the day of its encounter; what the weather, the council, and the ordinary attrition of the world have since deaccessioned, the museum does not undertake to know.
