An annex of The 8 Museum is a city in which encounters have occurred. Unlike the annexes of other institutions, it holds no building, employs no staff, and has acquired nothing. Its collection remains permanently installed where it was found — on a Norwegian flag, painted tile, green board, orange plastic, and harbour concrete — and is maintained, without their knowledge, by the residents, the weather, and the municipal services of the city itself.

The Mehamn Annex was established on 10 July 2026, when the museum, having taken the coastal route north, learned that the village at the end of the Nordkinn peninsula is reached by a county road numbered 888. The committee records that it did not seek this out, that it drove the road, and that it accessioned twenty-two works at the end of it. At 71°02′N Mehamn is the museum's northernmost annex on the European mainland — the Svalbard annexes lie further north but on islands — and the committee, which has been accused of finding its number where it looks for it, notes that on this occasion the number was on the signpost first. Each of the annex's works was photographed in situ, untouched, under existing conditions, and left exactly as it was. Visitors to Mehamn are advised that the collection remains on public display, and that the road is the exhibit. Every work was last verified on the day of its encounter; what the weather, the council, and the ordinary attrition of the world have since deaccessioned, the museum does not undertake to know.
