An annex of The 8 Museum is a city in which encounters have occurred. Unlike the annexes of other institutions, it holds no building, employs no staff, and has acquired nothing. Its collection remains permanently installed where it was found — on enamel door plates, spray-painted shutters, the backs of road signs, and at least one bakery item — and is maintained, without their knowledge, by the residents, the weather, and the municipal services of the city itself.

The Thessaloniki Annex was established on the morning of 2 September 2026, when a price on the glass of a perfume shop in Kalamaria (8M·b6cc50df, 08:22) was accessioned as the museum's 8,888th and the register, after two years and eight months, was complete. The committee had not planned the location; the city simply had the most eights left when the count ran out. Three hundred and fifty-six works were accessioned in eight days, ninety-eight of them on a single Sunday, and the committee records that the annex was still growing as the paperwork was signed. It is the museum's second annex in Greece by size after Corfu, and the one in which the museum learned that a target, once reached, changes nothing about the following morning. Each of the annex's works was photographed in situ, untouched, under existing conditions, and left exactly as it was. Visitors to Thessaloniki are advised that the collection remains on public display, and that the 8,888th work is not marked in any way, on the museum's instruction. Every work was last verified on the day of its encounter; what the weather, the council, and the ordinary attrition of the world have since deaccessioned, the museum does not undertake to know.
