An annex of The 8 Museum is a city in which encounters have occurred. Unlike the annexes of other institutions, it holds no building, employs no staff, and has acquired nothing. Its collection remains permanently installed where it was found — on weathered timber, blue steel, yellow enamel, a green stone figure, and red print — and is maintained, without their knowledge, by the residents, the weather, and the municipal services of the city itself.

The Sozopol Annex was established in June 2026 across three days on the Bulgarian coast, twenty-six of its thirty-six works accessioned in the old town on the first. It is the museum's second annex in Bulgaria after Sofia and its only one on the Black Sea, which the committee has now seen and can confirm is not black. Burgas, forty kilometres up the coast, contributes seven works and the name by which the annex was first proposed; the committee has settled on the town that did the work. Each of the annex's works was photographed in situ, untouched, under existing conditions, and left exactly as it was. Visitors to Sozopol are advised that the collection remains on public display. Every work was last verified on the day of its encounter; what the weather, the council, and the ordinary attrition of the world have since deaccessioned, the museum does not undertake to know.
